Panel

The Brazilian software research community is increasingly involved globally, expanding rapidly, and producing more and more Ph.D. students. This leads to many questions, including ‘what are our responsibilities as faculty members and graduate students?’, ‘how to balance quantity versus quality?’, ‘how to deal with breadth versus depth?’, ‘what is the role of serious experimentation and validation?’, ‘how to find a good topic when the world changes so rapidly?’, ‘where to publish the work?’, and ‘how to attract strong students when the difference between industrial salary and Ph.D. stipend is so great?’ The discussion around these questions is of special interesting for young professors, who might be struggling to  produce their first Ph.D. students, and for Ph.D. students, who want to maximize the success of their endeavor. We intend to gather together senior professors in this panel, both as panelists and attendants, aiming at fomenting a productive discussion to enlighten young professors and students in their future steps.
