PRESENTATION

The Brazilian Symposium on Software Components, Architectures, and Reuse (SBCARS) is a symposium promoted by Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) that gathers researchers, students and practitioners with a broad range of interests in software engineering related to component-based development, architectures and reuse. Previous editions of the symposium were highlighted by the presentation of high quality technical papers, international invited speakers, and tutorials. SBCARS 2014 intends to continue this tradition by offering a strong technical program, keynote talks by leaders in the field, and invited state-of-art presentations.

The last editions of SBCARS have also attracted various contributions of widely-recognized researchers in the area, such as Krzysztof Czarnecki, Joseph Yoder, Flavio Oquendo, David Weiss, Dirk Muthig, Paul Clements, Len Bass, Nenad Medvidovic, Klaus Schmid, Charles Krueger, Patrick Hung, Heiko Ludwig, Jaejoon Lee, just to mention a few.
In this context, this CFP is looking for high-quality submissions for SBCARS 2014, and invites authors to contribute with technical papers related (but not limited) to the following themes:

  • Component-based Software Engineering: specification, verification, testing, evolution, certification, and quality of components of component-based systems
  • Software Architecture: architecture recovery; architecture description languages; software architecture evaluation; service-oriented architectures
  • Software Reuse: technical and non-technical issues
  • Software Product Lines: dynamic SPLs, service-oriented SPLs
  • Model-driven Engineering
  • Service-based Development
  • Aspect-Oriented Software Development
  • Design Patterns
  • Software Modularity
  • Variability Management
  • Generative Programming and Domain-Specific Languages
  • Tool support for software components, architectures, and reuse
  • Experimental Studies (controlled experiments, case studies, systematic reviews) related to software components, architectures, and reuse
  • Experience reports related to software components, architectures, and reuse

CONTEXT

SBCARS 2014 is a member of the joint conference 5th Brazilian Conference on Software: Theory and Practice (CBSoft 2014), which will also host three other well-established Brazilian symposia:

  • 28th Brazilian Symposium on Software Engineering (SBES 2014)
  • 18th Brazilian Symposium on Programming Languages (SBLP 2014)
  • 17th Brazilian Symposium on Formal Methods (SBMF 2014)

CBSoft and SBCARS 2014 will take place in Maceió, the capital and the largest city of the coastal state Alagoas, Brazil. The new Zumbi dos Palmares International Airport connects Maceio' with many Brazilian cities and also operates some international flights. The city is home of the Universidade Federal de Alagoas, which will host both events.

PAPER SUBMISSION

Submitted papers can be written in Portuguese or English. Papers written in Portuguese need to be submitted with the title, abstract and keywords written in English. Submissions in English are strongly encouraged since the symposium proceedings will be submitted to Xplore and CSDL. Additionally, content will be submitted to the indexing companies for possible indexing. Indexing services are independent organizations, and we  cannot guarantee that any particular abstract or index entry will be included in Ei Compendex or any other indexing service. Papers submitted to SBCARS 2014 must not have been simultaneously submitted to any other forum (conference or journal), nor should they have already been published elsewhere. The acceptance of a paper implies that at least one of its authors will register for the event to present it.

It is strongly encouraged that authors read papers from previous editions of SBCARS in order to cite related research work published in the symposium whenever it is applicable. This will motivate and can improve discussions between researchers working in the same area during the symposium. SBCARS' papers published in previous editions are available at the following URL:

Submitted papers will be reviewed by at least three referees, based on its originality, relevance, technical soundness, and clarity of presentation. Papers must be no longer than 10 pages, including figures, tables and references. Submissions must be sent in the Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) format and must follow Conference Publishing Services (CPS)'s  two-column conference format.

Templates can be found at:
(Please use only Letter page size format).

Papers should be submitted electronically through EasyChair at

BEST PAPERS AND SPECIAL ISSUE

SBCARS' steering committee will award the Best Papers prize of the symposium. Only papers written in English will be eligible for the award, which will be announced during the event. Authors of best papers will be invited to submit an extended version to a special issue of the Journal of Software Engineering Research and Development (JSERD).
