Call for Papers

VII Software Engineering Education Forum  (FEES 2014) 
Co-located with XXVIII Brazilian Symposium on Software Engineering (SBES 2014)

Education on Software Engineering has been supported and leveraged efforts of  various institutions and educational and scientific computing societies.  The Computing Curricula - Software Engineering Volume (CCSE), which  grew out of one of these efforts, provides guidance to academic  institutions to provide teaching and learning of Software Engineering.  In this context, the CCSE states that exposure to professional practices  from Software Engineering should be an integrated component to the bachelor's degree curriculum, covering a wide range of subjects and activities,  including problem solving, management, legal and ethical issues, as well  as, written and oral communication. This way preparing students to be  part of diverse teams and respond to fast changes in the current area.
   
In recent years, some Bachelors of Software Engineering were created in Brazil. Moreover, we have disciplines and research areas already widely established in bachelor and graduate Computer Science and Engineering courses, for example. With this scenario of expansion and advancement of teaching-learning and research in Software Engineering in Brazil, we also have to gather a large number of educators/professors, researchers, and students to exchange their experiences and knowledge, as well as, to collaborate to their peers to mature Software Engineering teaching-learning methods, considering the Brazilian characteristics which include our national and regional market.
 
Thus, the Software Engineering Education Forum (FEES 2014) aims be this space  and moment, wherein, through the publications and apresentations of ours research results and experience reports, we can advance of Software Engineering Education as cientifical and  educational comunity, in particular in the Brazilian context. Therefore, we invited everyone (professors, researchers, and students) to send their papers either as full-paper, short-paper, case study papers, or poster proposal for  the "Students Forum".  The FEES 2014 track is intended to cover a wide range of topics, including (but not limited to): 
  • Education approaches for the development of  humam capacities in Software Engineering
  • Innovative good-practices for Software Engineering Education
  • Software Engineering Curriculum with innovative formats and methods
  • Software Engineering Education related to business models, in particular, to create startups in Brazil
  • Software Engineering and the legal aspects of software (licenses and patent, for exemple) 
  • Software Engineering and continuous technological changes
  • Education based in problems, colaboring with real needs of government, institutions and/or companies
  • Teaching-Learning  experiences to approach the new pratical scenarios of Software  Engineering with agile methods, free software, distributed sotfware  development, cloud computer, big data, mobile, embedded systems and/or  robotics
  • Experiences and needs of Software Engineering Education inside of  Brazil and Brasilian regions without local software industry
  • Integration between Software Engineering research and  education
  • Innovative methods that promote and stimulate the education of Software Engineering professor on mainstream topics
  • Distance teaching-learning methods for Software Engineering
  • New practices and approaches on programming and software development education
  • Software Engineering related to other disciplines and courses,  such as, arts, musician, administration, economy and psicology 
  • Uses of mobile devises to suport the Software Engineering Education
  • Uses of games and competition approaches for programming and software engineering education
  • Uses of social medias to support the Software Engineering Education

 

Format and Submissions:
 
The papers can be written in either Portuguese or English. Papers in English are strongly encouraged for evoluation in international context, according to the contributions obtained in FEES. The pages limits, including all pictures and references, depends on the type of article:
  • Full-paper,  up to 10 pages, documenting results and conclusions, according to established research methods (presentation: 20 min)
  • Short-paper, up to 4 pages, reporting results that were not totaly reviewed (presentation: 8 min)
  • Case study papers, up to 4 pages, documenting pratical reports from FEES 2014 topics (presentation: 8 minutes)
  • Poster proprosals for the "Students Forum", up to 2 pages, presenting either a degree monograph related to software engineering, or a master dissertation in progress, or a PhD thesis related to FEES 2014 topics, indicating the work level (undergraduation,  master or PhD degree) and advisor (and conclusion forecast when appropriate)
 
All submissions should be on Portable Document Format (PDF) and use the  two columns format provided by IEEE, avaiable on http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html. Papers/works should be submited on-line using the JEMS system from SBC: https://submissoes.sbc.org.br/home.cgi?c=2159.

 

Review process:
 
Full-papers will be evaluated by at least three members of the program committee with regard to: originality, relevance, technical consistency, clarity and presentation. Papers submitted as full-papers that do not  meet the acceptance criteria may be invited to be published as short  papers, joining the "work in progress" that will be presented in FEES.  The short-papers and case studies papers will be evaluated mainly concerning compliance with topics FEES 2014.
Poster proprosals for the "Students Forum" will be evaluated for clarity,  presentation of ideas and the results (if any) as well. Undergraduate student papers may address any subject area of Software Engineering,  but must also present the methodology used and the process of student learning during the development of their degree monograph. The  papers reporting the progress of a master's or PhD degree must be related somehow to the topics FEES 2014.
The Acceptance of a paper implies that at least one of the authors will  register at the conference/symposium for presentation.
