LATAM School

Call for participation

We invite applications for the 6th Latin American School in Software Engineering (SE), an in-person event co-located with the Brazilian Conference on Software: Practice and Theory (CBSoft 2026). The primary goal of the LATAM School is to support early-career and aspiring researchers in SE as they integrate into the broader research community, build successful careers, and face challenges while feeling joy in their academic journeys.

The school will provide participants with opportunities to explore potential research paths and gain a deeper understanding of current challenges and emerging opportunities in SE. Students will benefit from direct interaction with leading academic and industry researchers, learning about their career trajectories, effective strategies for disseminating research results, and important topics often not covered in graduate curricula.

The program contains:

  • Inspiring keynote talks;
  • An "Ask Me Anything" panel featuring experienced researchers who will address students’ questions about SE research and career paths in both academia and industry; and
  • A mentoring program in which students receive personalized feedback from experienced researchers on their ongoing research projects through a poster presentation.

Eligibility

The applicants must be:

  • PhD or MSc students from Latin American institutions; and
  • working with software engineering topics.

Students will be selected based on a set of criteria aimed at ensuring the adequacy of the program while promoting diversity and inclusion. The selection process will consider factors such as institutional affiliation (including representation from different regions of Brazil and other Latin American countries), underrepresented groups, and research topics.

How to apply?

Students need to provide the following:

  • A short abstract of their work;
  • A poster, which should outline the research overview, research questions, method, results obtained, and future plans. Poster dimensions: 122cm (height) and 92cm (width). Try to use large fonts, such as font size 36-48 for section headings and font size 20-28 for text.

Once the abstract and poster are ready, students should carefully fill out the information requested in the application system: https://cbsoft2026.ime.usp.br/hotcrp/latam-se-school/.

Benefits for selected participants

  • The opportunity to watch inspiring keynote talks
  • The opportunity to ask anything to leading researchers
  • The opportunity to receive personalized feedback on their ongoing research

There will be other benefits, such as a registration discount or poster printing, which are still being negotiated.
