Introduction to Software Metrics and Measurement

Abstract:

Software metrics and measurement intend to apply an engineering approach to developing and maintaining software. By measuring the characteristics of software and development processes, feedback can be obtained and used to understand, control and improve our products (eg software) and processes (eg development, maintenance, reuse). This course introduces the concepts of software metrics and measurement using practical examples in the context of cost estimation of software projects. Understanding these concepts will facilitate companies to better understand and improve their software development processes and the software developed.

Lecturer:

• Em�lia Mendes graduated from PUC-Rio, Brazil and got her Ph.D. from the University of Southampton, UK. Currently, she is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, where she heads of the Web Engineering, Technology and Applications Research Group. She has an extensive teaching record ranging from undergraduate to postgraduate teaching, course development and coordination in computer science, software engineering and web engineering programs. Emilia has research interests in the areas of web engineering, empirical software engineering, hypermedia and computer science education, and focuses her work on web and OO measurement and metrics, evidence-based research, and software and web engineering education. She is in the editorial boards of the Journal of Web Engineering, Int. J. of Web Engineering and Technology, Empirical Software Engineering and Advances in Software Engineering. She is also the Editor/Author of the books Web Engineering (Springer, 2006) and Cost Estimatioin Techniques for Web Projects (IGI Global, 2008).
