Abstract:

A Domain-Specific Language (DSL) is a language dedicated to a particular domain. Thus, it aims to solve only problems of that domain, being different of general-purpose languages like C or Java, in which developers can solve problems of many domains. On the other hand, DSLs are valuable because they provide language constructs at the problem domain abstraction level, which means that developers usually write less code when compared to a general-purpose language to solve a determined problem. In this course, we show a DSL aimed to construct Web systems as well as techniques and tools used to define and implement such a DSL. In particular, we use the toolset for program transformation Stratego/XT. This way, we will be able to create a language and execute code in it.

Lecturers:

  • Paulo Borba is an associate professor at the Informatics Center of the Federal University of Pernambuco, where he leads the Software Productivity Group. His main research interests are on the following topics and their integration: aspect-oriented languages and development, software product lines, and program and model refactoring. Paulo obtained his doctoral degree in computing at Oxford University, in 1995, has supervised more than 20 academic theses and published more than 100 research papers. He is also co-founder and adjunct scientist of Qualiti Software Processes, a spin-off of the Informatics Center specialized on software development tools and processes. Paulo is a member of the ACM and the Brazilian Computer Society, and has also been a member and chair of several scientific program committees.

  • Leopoldo Teixeira s a PhD student in computer science at Informatics Center, Federal University of Pernambuco. His research interests include: Software Product Lines, Software Verification and Refactoring, and Domain-Specific Languages.

  • M�rcio Ribeiro is a PhD student in computer science at Informatics Center, Federal University of Pernambuco, and professor at Computing Institute, Federal University of Alagoas. His research interests include: Software Product Lines, Aspect-Oriented Programming, and Domain-Specific Languages.
